Dear Alamosa Park Families,

The purpose of this email is to communicate the following:

• Monday, January 25, is a non-student and non-staff day (School will resume on Tuesday, January 26)
• Great Kindness Challenge and PTA-Sponsored Spirit Days (January 26 – 29)
• The Alamosa Park Early Dismissal Rainy Day Schedule (please click HERE). Please note that if we have a Rainy Day Early Dismissal Schedule, you will be notified 48 hours before the day that Early Dismissal Rainy Day Schedule is implemented.
• Community Update (01/22/21) from Dr. Doyle regarding Elementary Schools implementing an Early Dismissal Rainy Day Schedule when the chance of Rain is forecasted to be at 30% or greater within 48 hours of the school day
• Valentines Day (Sunday, 02/14/21) – This Valentine’s Day, I will not be able to allow the exchange of anything between and among students. Please see below.

Please remember that this Monday, January 25, is a non-student and non-staff day for all VUSD elementary school students. Alamosa Park Elementary School will resume on Tuesday, January 26.

Great Kindness Challenge (Tuesday, January 26 – Friday, January 29) & PTA-Sponsored Spirit Days
I am proud to announce that Alamosa Park students will participate in the Great Kindness Challenge (GKC) during the week of January 26. I believe that we can all agree that Kindness really does matter. Being kind under all circumstances is an important social and leadership skill. Alamosa Park students have participated in GKC since 2014. Students can begin fulfilling their dedication to Kindness by starting the review the GKC Checklist of acts of kindness by clicking HERE. 

PTA-sponsored Kindness Spirit Days – Please show your Alamosa Park Hawk School Spirit by participating in Spirit Days next week:

• Tuesday, January 26 - Kickoff to Kindness Week - Wear Fun Socks to kickoff Kindness Week at Alamosa Park. 
• Wednesday, January 27 - Kindness Makes our Team Stronger - Wear college gear
• Thursday, January 28 - Practice Positivity - Wear Bright Colors to brighten everyone's day
• Friday, January 29 - Hawks express Kindness and Gratitude everyday - Wear Hawk Spirit Gear

Rainy Day Early Dismissal Schedule - Please click HERE  

Rainy Day Early Dismissal Day schedule will be announced (with a phone call and email from Principal Ruggles) and implemented when the forecast calls for 30%+ chance of rain, 48 hours before rain is in the forecast. VUSD is using the National Weather Service (click HERE) to check for rain and inclement weather in the forecast. Once the decision is made and announced to implement the Rainy Day Early Dismissal Schedule on any particular day, Alamosa Park classic-enrolled students and staff will remain with the Rainy Day Early Dismissal Schedule even if the forecast changes later or there is no rain.
Please notice that during recess time, students will have the opportunity to eat their snack or free Alamosa Park breakfast in the covered lunch area & Multi-Purpose Room. Of course, students will remain distanced and the number of students at recess at any one time has been reduced for rainy days.
Students will receive their free sack lunch to take home before they are dismissed. Teachers will be communicating with students any afternoon asynchronous school work that should be completed before the following school day. 
The Alamosa Park AM / PM Program and Hawk Club will be canceled during the Rainy Day Early Dismissal Schedule. Your support in picking up your child up on time is greatly appreciated.

Valentine’s Day – Please understand that for this Valentine’s Day, which is on Sunday, 02/14/21, I will not be able to allow the exchange of anything between and among students due to possible spread of the virus. As a result, I have let all of my teachers and support staff that we will not be able to allow for students to exchange anything this Valentine’s Day. I appreciate everyone joining me in this safety and health measure for all of our students, faculty, and families.

Attention Parents of Virtual-Enrolled Families: Student pictures are now available for pick up in the front office between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., every school day. Please pick up your child’s pictures during the week of January 26. Thank you.
