Alamosa's First Read-a-thon
What is a Read-a-Thon?
Read-a-thons are fun and rewarding programs designed to bring students together with family and friends to encourage reading, build literacy skills, and develop or deepen a love of reading. Students participate by gathering pledges from family and friends for the time they read. While our overall goal is to help improve literacy and spark the joy of reading, read-a-thons also help our school raise money without taking time away from students' learning. This read-a-thon promises to be a fun and exciting journey for all students as they begin their reading adventures.
What are the dates of the Read-a-Thon?
Our read-a-thon will begin on Thursday, February 16 and end on Thursday, March 2.
This read-a-thon is sponsored by Alamosa Park Educational Foundation (APEF), a parent-led volunteer group. 100% of the money raised will be used to fund Digital Programs, Classroom Grants and Field Trips.

What counts as reading?
Any time your child spends reading outside of school during February 16 - March 2 counts toward the Read-a-Thon. This includes individual reading time and being read to by an adult. Remember to log your minutes at the end of each day.
My child cannot read on his/her own yet. Can my child still participate?
Most definitely! Parents, guardians, siblings and other family members may read aloud to your child.
How much money should a sponsor pledge?
That is up to the sponsor. Sponsors can decide if they want to make a flat donation amount or if they prefer to sponsor the child based on the number of minutes the student plans to read. For Example: If a child plans to read 100 minutes and they wish to sponsor .50 per minute, that would be a $50.00 pledge.
How do I ask for pledges?
Your family and friends would love to hear about your Read-a-Thon goals. We've prepared a sample letter that you can use to ask for pledges. Feel free to customize this to include your reading goals and add additional information you think your loved ones would enjoy hearing about. Download the sample letter here.
