Alamosa Park Family Letter - 11/29/2020

11/29/2020
11/29/20

Dear Alamosa Park Families,

I hope you and your family enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving and Fall Break!

The purpose of this email is to notify parents and families about:
  • A friendly reminder about the travel advisory in California - Classic-enrolled students who traveled outside of California during the Thanksgiving break should please remain home for 14 days after return date from out of state travel
  • New COVID-19 Testing Center in Vista – Open 7 Days per week, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

California Travel Advisory – Reminder for Classic-enrolled students who traveled outside of California to remain home 14 days after travel
As described in the most recent, 11/24/20, Community Update, you may know that there is a travel advisory in effect in California right now.
The Community Update states the following:
In response to the rapidly growing number of cases, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued a number of important advisories. The CDC is advising against travel for most people during the Thanksgiving holiday and the CDPH has advised that:
Persons arriving in California from other states or Californians returning from other states or countries could increase the risk of COVID-19 spread. In addition, travel itself can be a risk for exposure to COVID-19, particularly travel through shared conveyance such as air, bus or rail travel.  Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. These persons should limit their interactions to their immediate household.
Friendly Reminder (Travel Advisory): If your children traveled outside of California during the Thanksgiving break, I ask that you follow this guidance and keep your children at home from school for 14 days following your return to California. Please note that this guidance does NOT apply to travel within California. If your children did travel outside California during the Thanksgiving break, I request that you please call the Alamosa Park front office at (760) 940-0700 to report your child’s absence.

Alamosa Park Family Letter - 11/12/2020

11/12/2020
11/12/20
Dear Alamosa Park Families,
I hope you and your family are doing well. I would like to thank all of our students, faculty, and families for following all of the safety and health measures that are in place at Alamosa Park (AP webpage).
  • I have noticed that students are doing a nice job of remembering to wash and wear their face covering daily, remembering to bring their water bottle, washing and sanitizing hands on a regular basis, and following directions from their teacher for distancing when transitioning from classroom to recess / lunch, during physical education, and while in classrooms, as much as practicable.
  • For our virtual students, faculty, and families, I would like to thank your tremendous efforts in supporting virtual learning. Both in-person and virtual learning take a great deal of preparation from our teachers and support staff, as well as coordination and support from our families.
  • Finally, our noon-duty supervisors, custodians, office staff, and traffic duty volunteer help to keep everyone safe with temperature checks, distributing student face coverings as needed, supervising students, and sanitizing all classrooms, bathrooms, lunch tables and high-touch surface areas on a regular basis throughout the school day and after school.
  • These collective and coordinated efforts by everyone in our community make Alamosa Park a fabulous, safe, and healthy place to learn.
I greatly appreciate the teamwork from everyone!
The purpose of this email is to:
  • Notify parents and families of Virtual Parent Conferences, which will be scheduled by your child’s teacher, during a dedicated time on Tuesday, December 8 – Friday, December 11 (Early Dismissal Days will be in place for the entire week of December 7).
  • Invite Alamosa Park parents and families to my Virtual Morning with Principal on Zoom, which will be on Tuesday, November 17, 8:15 – 9:15 a.m.
  • Remind families of the APEF Dine Out event next Wednesday, 11/18
  • Remind all of our families to practice safety when driving into the Alamosa Park parking lot
  • Remind everyone of the importance of student Internet safety at all times
  • Share the latest Community Update from VUSD Superintendent, Dr. Doyle.
Alamosa Park Virtual Parent Conferences; Tuesday – Friday, December 8 – 11 (Early Dismissal days will be in place for the entire week of December 7 to allow time for Parent Conference meetings)
The Vista Unified School District believes in establishing the best possible communication between home and school.  When parents and teachers sit down together to discuss what children do in school, the following results are accomplished:
  • Accurate accounts of student learning and progress can be given to parents.
  • Teachers gain insight from parents regarding individual needs of students.
  • Academic and social strengths as well as areas of focus for each child is articulated.
Within the next few weeks, your child's teacher will be in contact with you to set up a time to meet with you virtually to discuss student performance and progress. Our conference days are on Tuesday – Friday, December 8 - 11, 2020. We would appreciate your every effort to share this conference opportunity with your child’s teacher. Parent-teacher conferencing is a time to share information and to exchange ideas and values important to child, parent and teacher.
Before your scheduled conference time, parents will receive the Trimester 1 Progress Report either in the regular U.S. mail or the Progress Report will be sent home with their child.
The most important purpose of parent conferences is to make possible the very best school experience for each child.Thank you for your support and attendance at the Parent Conference.
Virtual Morning with the Principal on Zoom (Tuesday, November 17, 8:15 – 9:15 a.m.)
I invite all parents to my first 2020-21 Virtual Morning with the Principal, which is set for Tuesday, November 17, starting at 8:15 a.m. on Zoom. In an effort to sustain two-way communication with our families, I will be sharing our school vision, Dual Language Immersion in Grades K & 1, the current status with in-person safety and health measures, and provide time for questions and answers. Parking Lot Safety:
Please remember to slow down in the parking lot, pay close attention to students and parents crossing the crosswalk areas, remain alert, and refrain from using your cellular phone. Please see the map below as a reminder of the morning and afternoon drop-off and pick up times. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Cyber – Safety
During the past week, while off campus and at home, one of our students and families experienced a safety situation in which the student almost became a victim of an unsafe cyber situation. Even though this incident did not take place on school grounds nor on a school-issued computer, I would like to let all of our families to know that it is extremely important to be vigilant and aware of cyber-safety for all of our of students. Moreover, with students using the Internet on a regular basis for virtual learning, it is important that I remind all of our community about Internet safety and the importance of monitoring student use of the Internet. Commonsense Media provides several excellent resources and videos that support student Internet safety.
When time permits, please click
  • HERE for Privacy and Internet Safety
  • HERE for Family Engagement Resources
  • HERE for Internet Safety Tips for Kids
I want all of our students to remain safe at all times. Your support with monitoring student safety of the Internet at home will keep everyone safe. Thank you for your attention to Internet Safety.
